Marcos Zegers is a Chilean photographer whose work moves between art and documentary photography. Drawing from his background as an architect, his practice explores the relationship between human presence, territory and the built landscape.

From the beginning, his photography has focused on rural ways of life, human settlements and territorial transformations across Latin America, approaching these landscapes from an interdisciplinary and multi-scalar perspective.

One of his most recognized bodies of work is his long-term visual research in the Atacama Desert, a project that examines the historical and contemporary transformations of this territory. This work has been widely exhibited internationally and led to the publication of his book The Mineral Landscape Has a Celestial Sky and Two White Mountains (2022). Another significant project, The Unknown Story of the 93 Chileans Who Went to Russia in 1973, was published by The New York Times.

Alongside his artistic practice, Zegers is a recognized architectural photographer who collaborates regularly with architects, studios and international publications.

In 2023 he co-founded the collective Otro Habitar with architect and geographer Magdalena Ulloa, developing interdisciplinary projects focused on rural, peasant and Indigenous forms of habitation.

His work has been exhibited in Chile, Shanghai, Paris Photo, AIPAD New York, Photo London, Getxophoto and PHotoESPAÑA. He received the POY Latam in 2019 and was selected for the World Press Photo 6×6 Global Talent Program.

In 2024, he was named a National Geographic Society Explorer. He currently focuses on documentary and architectural photography, working as a freelance photographer for The New York Times, various international media outlets, and collaborating with local and academic organizations dedicated to territorial development.
